About this Project

The Prince Bishop Primary Community School project in Bishop Auckland was delivered on behalf of Durham County Council under an NEC4 contract, awarded through the Council’s internal framework.

The scheme comprised the construction of new multi-use games area (MUGA) pitches built to The FA and Sport England approved standards, enhancing the school’s outdoor sporting provision and supporting both curriculum and community use. Careful planning, sequencing, and site management were implemented to ensure the works were undertaken with minimal disruption to daily school activities, maintaining a safe and secure environment for pupils and staff throughout the programme.

The scope of works included full earthworks operations incorporating cut and fill and the off-site disposal of unsuitable material, followed by the installation of sub-base, synthetic carpet surfacing, and rubber crumb finishes to achieve the required performance specification. Associated infrastructure works comprised new drainage systems, service installations, sports lighting, perimeter fencing to secure the facility, and the construction of footpaths to provide safe and accessible routes around the pitches. The completed development delivers a high-quality, durable sports surface designed to promote physical activity and long-term community benefit, aligned with the Council’s continued investment in educational and community infrastructure.
